The data set covers all relevant process steps / technologies over the supply chain of the represented cradle to gate inventory with a good overall data quality. The inventory is mainly based on data gathered within research and industry projects and is completed, where necessary, by secondary data. This data set is based on primary data from internationally adopted production processes, connected with country specific electricity mixes.

The carbon fiber production is based on averaged industry data representing the world wide production. The processing is set in Germany.
The decribed material is a thermosetting polymer with a fiber volume content of 50%. The matrix material is epoxy. The included production processes for this route are bindered non-crimp fabric (NCF), dry forming, resin transfer molding (RTM) and finish. The amount of cutting waste during dry forming is high (60%).
The production of CF is modelled according to Das (2011), Griffing (2010), Morgan (2005); yield from PAN to CF approximately 50%.
For additional information on the CF and CFRP processes see further details in “Data source(s) of this dataset”: [Fraunhofer AMP Composites CF additional documentation] and [Fraunhofer AMP Composites CFRP additional documentation].
The carbon fiber processing route and other background processes are described in the documentation for the specific included datasets.
Carbon fiber (CF; PAN-based; HT) - 07
Water (desalinated; deionised)
Compressed air 7 bar (medium power consumption)

In the foreground processes all relevant flows were considered, trying to avoid any cut-off of material and energy flows. Cut-off rules for each unit process: Coverage of at least 95 % of mass and energy of the input and output flows, and 98 % of their environmental relevance (according to expert judgement). For further details please see the document "GaBi Databases Modelling Principles"
None.
Data for the foreground system were collected in research and industry projects and verified through literature and/or industry consultation. All relevant background data such as energy and auxiliary materials are taken from the GaBi Databases, keeping consistency.
